I finally dug out the “temporary” decorative stone in front of my porch steps with a plan to install a wider path made from concrete pavers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I dug out the topsoil, roots and rocks until I was at a depth of about eight inches and reached hard clay, which I tamped down flat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After determining the final slope and height of the finished pavers, and marking it with string lines, I added about a cubic yard and a half, two inches at a time, thoroughly hand tamping each layer for a consistent base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the design called for sixteen inch square pavers on a 45 degree angle and a curved border, I used a masonry blade in my tile saw while my Dad helped layout and level blocks on the screeded paver base sand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I decided to use plastic paver edge restraints held down with metal spikes, and polymeric sand in the cracks to lock everything in place before back filling with topsoil and planting grass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
