Like many family houses built in the 1920’s, this one has a downstairs half bath that most likely used to be a coat closet. The pedestal sink fit the space, but afforded no storage, and the sink drain was barely flowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its difficult to tell what the original plan was with the plumbing, but looking in the basement, it was easy to see why the drain wasn’t working well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can see, a previous homeowner got creative with a loop-de-loop trap of their own design. This might actually qualify as an S-trap, but we can certainly do better. Also, due to the way this bathroom was added it’s unclear whether there is adequate venting going on. This is going to be a slow drain on a good day, and clog easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
